Just a Little Bit..

19/10/2008

Before I got back to Bogor, I got the feeling that something will happen. I still got works to do from the previous day, added with a new work that comes up. But at least, that day, I still believe that my graduation administration stuffs have been completed. But it not..

Not far from five days ago, I got a no-name call. That time, I was still working on my new (well, you could say) job. It was local phone. Not long after that the call followed by another call. This time from a cellphone number. Unfortunately, I couldn’t picked up all these call because (I don’t know why) I didn’t notice it at all. The story didn’t end here.

The next day, when I was paying my boarding room’s bill, the clerk told me that I got a phone call from my academic division of my faculty. I felt little shocked there, but I couldn’t went there because it already dark outside. My mind kept thinking, “what’s wrong??”

So on the last day before weekend, afternoon, I went there. Just asking why they called me. They said that there was mistake in my graduation letter. I shouldn’t got the CL because I got one C in my basic course. I had to gave the graduation letter back to them and they will replace it with the new one. Hardly to said, my graduation letter (the real one) has been submitted into the academic division of campus. And I think all of my friends around the campus did the same way. How could they possibly didn’t know about the procedure?? So then, they said that they would try to fix it for me, and asked me to back on the first day after weekend. It’s all because the one who took the responsibility for it has already going home.

It wasn’t because the downgrade from CL that bothers me. It’s about how will I get the copies of my graduation letter back?? I already used it for my dad (he said he need it to stop the subsidy that government gave to us) and the bank (to close my account). I just can remember these two, what about the others?? I hope this will solve clean and peacefully.

Thanks for reading anyway,, have a nice day…

I like this song.. It reminds me about my high school’s music festival couple years ago.. This song became one of the ending soundtrack of Rurouni Kenshin. Enjoy it..

Lighweight

26/09/2008

Did you know the opposite of lightweight? Maybe almost 99% of you said that the opposite was heavyweight. It’s easy. Just take the adjective phrase, which is light, and change it to its opposite, which is heavy. It applied on language. But, did it apply to all language?

Maybe now, 50% of you said that it applied to all language. How about I said that if a thing wasn’t lightweight, so it must be a heavyweight? If you said that I was correct, maybe you forgot about one thing. In mathematics, there was a subject called mathematical logic.

Rings a bell? Remember about the if-then theorem? If you do it” then “something happens”. It means that “you do it” was just one of the causes to make “something happens”. But, if something happens, it doesn’t mean that always “you do it”. If you want a clause that said that “something happens” just because “you do it”, use if-and-only-if instead.

Well, why I bother telling a story about if-then and if-only-if? Yeah, I want to tell you about my experience when I was coding Java. Some of you maybe know about swing components in Java. They are divided into two categories, the heavyweight and the lightweight components. I was playing with JInternalFrame instance back then. I wanted to make a popup window when I clicked a button in this JInternalFrame instance. But I also wanted that if the window popped, the JInternalFrame was not enabled, means user couldn’t do anything in JInternalFrame.

Before we continued, I wanted to share that according to JDK API docs:

Disabling a lightweight component does not prevent it from receiving MouseEvents.

So then I checked if the JInternalFrame was a lightweight or not. To do this, I used a method called isLightweight. It returned false. So I think that it was a heavyweight component. Then I disabled this internal frame when the window popped up. But you know what, it didn’t work. The internal frame still could receive MouseEvents. When I checked again in JDK API docs about JInternalFrame, it said that it was a lightweight component. So what happened here?

Well, actually it’s totally my fault. I used isLightweight method when the internal frame still not visible. When I checked about this method, the JDK said:

This method will always return false if this component is not displayable because it is impossible to determine the weight of an undisplayable component.

So, the method returned false because the component wasn’t visible and not because it was a heavyweight component. Here, I got the if-then message. It reminded me about an advertisement in television not so long ago. It said: “smart people drink this tonic*. I guess you could use if-then to conclude its meaning. Well, have a nice day..

* I censored the trademark. I guess you already know about the advertisement already.

At Home

21/09/2008

Some people who noticed about me back in Bogor said that I was thinner than before. Yup, that was because of the sickness I got couple weeks ago, okay maybe a month ago. The sickness just left cough in my body, the others were fortunately gone with peace, Alhamdulillah.

All the doctors that I’ve been visited (well, just two actually) didn’t take this cough seriously and gave me the ordinary cough syrups. When on the fourth week it didn’t heal, I got a feeling that this cough was extraordinary. So I told myself to check up my lungs when I got home, Semarang. This cough successfully took my weight dramatically.

Home sweet home
Home sweet home

So, finally I got home. My beloved mom who saw me asked me why I become so thin. “Just like your late grandfather”, so she said. She then asked me to eat a lot while I was at home. It means one things, there will be a lot of foods at home. Yippi.. Just to make sure, my mom asked me again if my eating sense was dropping. And I said, “no mam, I just haven’t enough food to eat back there”. This night I wrote this, she prepared one of my fave, fried Lele with sambals. It’s eating time!!

P.S. I’ll check up near this week. Hope It isn’t bad. Wish me luck.. :D

Registration

16/09/2008

Today, September 15th, was the first day of graduation ceremony’s registration. I got there with Ferdian, but he has to take some money first. So I, alone, walked to the place. There were some people, not so crowd, but still it’s a lot of people. I used my height to find my mates in Ilkom, but I didn’t see one. I took a deep breath and tried to figure out how these registration works.
Fortunately, I found my old boarding house friend. I asked him what should I do, and he gave me some hints to work it out. So, I wrote my name on the registration form and placed it into the first registration booth. The right side was crowded with people so I took the left side. Curious, I stood near the booth and read the situation.
It just a minute or so when Ferdi came. I told him what should he do and waited again near the booth. Not long after that, some of my friends finally appeared. But, they took on the right side. I’ve told them to place the form on the left side wich was less crowded, but they didn’t listen. Uh well, mind your own business then.

Another few minutes, and my name was called. I got some paper back, then I went to the queue on second booth. Although the queue was so long, but it only took a minute to get to the edge. I gave my and Ferdi’s papers and waited my name to be called. These time took the most time.
When the caller reached the microphone, me and Ferdi took a caution. But our name didn’t call yet for three or four turns. It was my name which was called first. I took my invitation letter (for my parents) and some papers to take the graduation suit.

So I switched to the third booth, the last one. One thing that people around me worrying about was the size of the suit. Okay, it took me also. But when I got to the edge, the officer chose the size for me. So I took it and found some place comfy to try the suit. Well, the size was L and it fitted on me. Using this suite reminded me to a wizard in J.K. Rowling’s famous novels. Ferdi, Syadid, Halida, and Pandu joined me then. They all tried their suits, while I was taking a break.
After they all tried their suits, we went to the Career Development Division. We wanted to join the pre-graduation preparation seminars for job seeker and job maker. After chose the time and registered, we were going to our own directions. Me? I was going home. And now, I was registered!

P.S. The ceremony will be held on October 22nd in Graha Widya Wisuda (GWW) building.
